This year marks the 10th Annual Great Hot Cocoa War, and if you’re a fan of hot cocoa, you definitely don’t want to miss this delicious competition running through November 30 in downtown Norfolk, VA. With 20 contestants participating this year, each offering their own creative take on the beloved drink, there’s something for every taste.
I had the pleasure of exploring some of the best cocoa creations and wanted to share a few highlights:
✨ Cooking with Greens: One of the unique offerings this year was their bacon-flavored vegan cocoa. A bold and savory twist on the classic, this cocoa was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. I had the pleasure of meeting Derak Green, a former contestant on MasterChef (Season 14), who was so kind and passionate about his vegan creations. If you’re looking for something different, this is a must-try!
✨ Amale Tre Focacceria: Their cocoa has a subtle almond flavor that sets it apart from the rest. It’s delicate, yet unforgettable.
✨ Genevieve’s: If you love a rich, indulgent drink, Genevieve’s delivers with their creamy and buttery cocoa. It was decadence in a cup!
✨ The Stockpot: The presentation alone is enough to impress, but the cocoa’s delightful orange essence makes it stand out even more.

Before diving into the cocoa wars, I started my morning at Lamia’s Crêpes with their Saumon Crêpe. This crêpe is filled with smoked salmon, roasted red peppers, capers, and topped with a rich rouille sauce—paired perfectly with a glass of hot mulled wine. They’re also participating in the cocoa competition, so be sure to check out their cocoa entry too!
There are so many creative and unique offerings this year, so be sure to grab your cocoa-loving crew and visit before the event ends on November 30. Which one do you think will be your favorite?
