Motherhood, Resilience, and the Power of Embracing Our Unique Strengths as Women in Business

Motherhood changes everything. It reshapes your identity, your priorities, and the way you navigate challenges. As women and mothers, we’re often expected to compartmentalize our lives, conform to outdated systems, or downplay the very qualities that set us apart.

But here’s the truth: our differences are our strengths.

Mothers are the ultimate creators. We literally give life. We nurture, adapt, and bring intuition and empathy to all that we do. Instead of minimizing these qualities, we should embrace them. They make us uniquely powerful in both motherhood and business.

The Balancing Act: Finding Strength in the Chaos

Motherhood has taught me that life isn’t about achieving perfect balance—it’s about thriving within the chaos. Between managing school projects, extracurriculars, and the countless moving parts of daily life, I’ve learned to stay present and focus on what truly matters.

This same mindset fuels me in my professional life. When priorities shift or unexpected challenges arise, I lean on the adaptability and resilience I’ve built as a mother. These traits aren’t just tools—they’re superpowers.

Creativity Born from Creation

Mothers are natural creators. We turn chaos into calm, make the impossible possible, and find beauty in the ordinary. Beyond creating life, we’re constantly inventing, problem-solving, and thinking outside the box.

That creativity spills over into every area of life, including business. Whether brainstorming innovative solutions, finding fresh ways to connect with others, or tackling challenges head-on, the ability to think creatively under pressure is something every mother knows well.

Empathy as a Superpower

One of the most profound lessons motherhood has taught me is the importance of empathy. As a mom, you’re constantly stepping into someone else’s shoes—whether you’re soothing tears or celebrating a small but meaningful triumph.

In business, this translates to understanding people’s needs, building authentic relationships, and crafting strategies that truly resonate. Empathy isn’t a soft skill; it’s a driving force behind connection and success.

For women and mothers especially, empathy is a strength that should be celebrated, not minimized. It’s what allows us to lead with heart while staying focused on results.

Resilience Through Setbacks

Motherhood has shown me that setbacks are not failures—they’re opportunities to grow. Life doesn’t always go as planned, but those moments teach us strength, patience, and the art of perseverance.

There was a time in my life when I had to start over completely with very little. It was daunting, but motherhood gave me the determination to push forward. Slowly but surely, I rebuilt—providing stability for myself and my child, starting a fulfilling career, and creating a life I’m proud of.

That resilience has been the foundation of every professional challenge I’ve faced. It reminds me that no matter how difficult things may seem, there’s always a way forward.

Embracing Our Power as Women and Mothers

Motherhood isn’t just a role—it’s a testament to the strength, creativity, and resilience women bring to the table. These aren’t traits to downplay; they’re qualities that make us extraordinary.

As women, it’s easy to feel like we need to “fit in” or hide the aspects of ourselves that stand out. But it’s those very qualities—our ability to create, to nurture, to empathize—that can transform the spaces we enter.

To all the women and mothers reading this: lean into your uniqueness. Embrace your intuition, creativity, and resilience. Celebrate the power that comes from being exactly who you are.

Because when we own our strengths, we don’t just succeed—we redefine what success looks like.

A Decade of Deliciousness: Exploring the 10th Annual Great Hot Cocoa War in Norfolk

This year marks the 10th Annual Great Hot Cocoa War, and if you’re a fan of hot cocoa, you definitely don’t want to miss this delicious competition running through November 30 in downtown Norfolk, VA. With 20 contestants participating this year, each offering their own creative take on the beloved drink, there’s something for every taste.

I had the pleasure of exploring some of the best cocoa creations and wanted to share a few highlights:

✨ Cooking with Greens: One of the unique offerings this year was their bacon-flavored vegan cocoa. A bold and savory twist on the classic, this cocoa was unlike anything I’ve ever tasted. I had the pleasure of meeting Derak Green, a former contestant on MasterChef (Season 14), who was so kind and passionate about his vegan creations. If you’re looking for something different, this is a must-try!
✨ Amale Tre Focacceria: Their cocoa has a subtle almond flavor that sets it apart from the rest. It’s delicate, yet unforgettable.
✨ Genevieve’s: If you love a rich, indulgent drink, Genevieve’s delivers with their creamy and buttery cocoa. It was decadence in a cup!
✨ The Stockpot: The presentation alone is enough to impress, but the cocoa’s delightful orange essence makes it stand out even more.

Before diving into the cocoa wars, I started my morning at Lamia’s Crêpes with their Saumon Crêpe. This crêpe is filled with smoked salmon, roasted red peppers, capers, and topped with a rich rouille sauce—paired perfectly with a glass of hot mulled wine. They’re also participating in the cocoa competition, so be sure to check out their cocoa entry too!

There are so many creative and unique offerings this year, so be sure to grab your cocoa-loving crew and visit before the event ends on November 30. Which one do you think will be your favorite?

Finding Inspiration on the Noland Trail: A Photography Adventure

Recently, I had the pleasure of spending the day at the stunning Noland Trail with my talented photographer friend, Rachel Hennessy. We set out on an adventure to scout some incredible locations for an upcoming client project, and it turned out to be an inspiring experience full of natural beauty and creative discovery.

The Noland Trail, with its winding paths and tranquil views, is the perfect backdrop for photography. Whether you’re walking through quiet wooded areas, along the serene water’s edge, or discovering hidden corners of nature, there’s something about this place that sparks creativity. I couldn’t help but capture a few moments along the way—each shot felt like a small piece of the trail’s magic.

Scouting and Creative Discovery

As we explored, we discussed lighting, angles, and the best ways to frame nature’s wonders. It’s always a pleasure to help Rachel as she scouts out locations for her clients, and there’s something special about working with a fellow creative. It’s a reminder of how collaboration can bring out new perspectives, even in familiar places.

I love how photography can turn an ordinary walk into an extraordinary adventure. There’s a feeling of discovery with every new location, and it’s rewarding to see how nature can transform a space into the perfect setting for a photoshoot.

A Few Shots Along the Way

While Rachel was scouting and planning for her upcoming shoot, I couldn’t resist taking a few shots myself. Every turn of the trail brought a new detail to notice, whether it was the colors of the trees or the stillness of the water. Below are some of my favorite photos from the day.

I can’t wait to see the final photos from Rachel’s shoot with her clients—it was such a joy to play a small part in the creative process.

The Power of Nature in Creativity

Spending time outdoors is always a good reminder of the power of nature to inspire creativity. Whether you’re a photographer, writer, or just someone who enjoys taking in the world around you, nature offers endless possibilities for inspiration.

For me, this outing was a chance to slow down, breathe in the fresh air, and appreciate the beauty of the world around us. Sometimes, a walk in the woods is all it takes to spark a new idea or find a fresh perspective.

I hope you enjoy the photos I’ve shared from my day at the Noland Trail. If you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend exploring this peaceful spot—it’s truly a place where nature and creativity collide.
